
The ΊΓΙ«ΟΘΙϊ Dance Ensemble (ΊΓΙ«ΟΘΙϊ/Keith Walters '11)
ΊΓΙ«ΟΘΙϊβs Department of Theatre and Dance presents the ΊΓΙ«ΟΘΙϊ Dance Ensemble in βDancing on Instinct,β featuring works by student choreographers with 32 performers.
Performances will be held March 2β4 at 7:30 p.m. and March 5 at 2 p.m. in the Alice Austin Theatre in William A. Brodie Hall on campus. Shows are $12 and open to the public. Tickets are available at Student Association Ticket Office or in cash at the door.
The concert is artistically directed and produced by Jonette Lancos, professor of dance studies, who will present βBallet For Nine.β Guest artist-in-residence Jon Lehrer restaged a contemporary repertoire work βLa Folliaβ to music by Antonio Lucio Vivaldi, La Follia (Concerto grosso Sonata #12 Opus 1).
Other choreography will be presented by adjunct faculty members Nicolette Ferguson, Deborah Scodese-French, and Allison Thomashefski. Guest adjudicators were Garth Fagan Dance principal dancer, rehearsal director, and choreographer Norwood Pennewell, who attended ΊΓΙ«ΟΘΙϊ, and Lehrer.
Student work features Elizabeth Allegro β23 and Samantha Percy β23. βHeavens Aboveβ will be performed by the dance composition class. Skyllar Cicero '23, Abigail Costa '24, Victoria Garland '24, and Olivia Johnson '24 will present their final projects, using the βElements and Principles of Designβ as exhibited in the images taken with the James Webb Space Telescope.
ΊΓΙ«ΟΘΙϊ's kinesiology class will also perform a Ball Dance, which takes the technique and theory of PhysioBall conditioning beyond exercise.
βDancing on Instinctβ is directed by Lancos in collaboration with senior student assistants Elizabeth Allegro β23, Samantha Percy β23, Emma Piwko β23, and Mary Roberts β23. Stage manager is Hannarose Manning β23. Theatre and dance chair Johnnie Ferrell is mentoring student lighting designers Stephanie Billharz β24 and Tucker Marvin β24. The costume shop is supervised by Lisa Miskell with guest costume designer Lindsey Voorhees.
