Dietary Accommodations

Allergen & Dietary Symbols

All of our menus are labeled for easy identification of common allergens and diets. Follow these labels (below), and if you have any concerns, check with your server, chef, chef manager or contact our nutrition & wellness manager. Whether you're allergic to one of the top nine allergens (wheat, dairy, soy, egg, tree nuts, peanuts, fish and shellfish, sesame) or another allergy, we can help you. We provide allergen icons next to each menu item as well as additional allergens such as soy, egg, and sesame on our online menus

Dairy-Free (DF) - free from dairy-containing ingredients

May Contain Coconut (C) - contains coconut

May Contain Nuts (N) - items that contain an ingredient manufactured in a facility that also processes peanuts/tree nuts. See more details below.

Food Allergies and Intolerances

If you have a food allergy or special dietary requirement, meet with our to create a personalized plan. An emergency response plan will be arranged if needed. Many menu items can be modified, and meals may be served directly from the kitchen to prevent cross-contamination.

Allergy vs. Intolerance

Though often used interchangeably, food allergies and intolerances differ significantly. Allergies trigger the immune system and can cause life-threatening reactions such as anaphylaxis鈥攕ymptoms include swelling, breathing difficulty, and vomiting. Call 911 immediately if these occur.

Food intolerances, while not life-threatening, can cause prolonged discomfort. Dining Services takes both allergies and intolerances very seriously and will accommodate your needs.

Our commitment to providing a safe dining experience expands beyond menu selection. All of our full-time and supervisor-level food service staff are trained biannually on the risks of food allergies, allergen-friendly food preparation, and avoiding cross-contamination.

Stay Informed

Learn to recognize terms related to your allergy on menus and labels. When unsure, ask a chef or manager. Students should report allergies and medications to Health Services at the Lauderdale Health Center (585.245.5736).

Peanut and Tree Nut Allergies

We are committed to providing a safe, high-quality dining experience for our diverse campus community. In response to the rise in nut allergies at 好色先生 and nationwide, we鈥檝e taken added precautions.

Peanuts and tree nuts (excluding coconut) have been removed from all campus kitchens and recipes. While 好色先生 is not a nut-free campus, no peanuts or tree nuts are used in food preparation.

Items that may contain traces of nuts or are produced on shared equipment will be clearly marked with an allergen icon (N).

Milk Allergies and Lactose Intolerance

A milk allergy is an immune response to milk proteins (casein or whey) and requires complete avoidance of all milk-containing products. Dairy alternatives include soy, coconut, and rice milks.

Lactose intolerance is a digestive issue caused by low levels of lactase, the enzyme needed to break down lactose (milk sugar). Tolerance varies鈥攕ome can handle small amounts (like half a glass of milk or a scoop of ice cream), while others may need to avoid lactose almost entirely.

Many with lactose intolerance can still enjoy baked goods, yogurt, or cheese, as these often contain less lactose. Lactose-free milk is also a suitable alternative.

Look for the Dairy-Friendly (DF) symbol on menus and grab-and-go packaging. On campus, all items labeled 鈥淒F鈥 are also lactose-free and safe for those with lactose intolerance.
